ESF put on an amazing conference yesterday for international schools to meet and greet and hear from experts on child safeguarding and specifically child sexual abuse. Jaap Marsman did an amazing job and I think all 150+ of us could feel momentum picking up speed toward greater protective environments for Hong Kong kids.
The theme for the panel discussion was Child Sexual Abuse: connecting research with frontline workers and survivors. During this expert discussion, Dr Jordan Greenbaum of ICMEC, Isabel Schilg, MCCJ, LL.B of Charite University of Medicine and Taura Edgar of TALK Hong Kong discussed the many facets of child sexual abuse. The panel was moderated by Jaap Marsman, ESF’s Adviser for Safeguarding and Child Protection. They explored topics such as the difference between perpetrators and those with a sexual interest in children, victim-survivors and the impacts of abuse, responding to disclosures in schools, creating pathways for disclosures, and how to improve primary prevention with all adults.
During the conference, Taura presented on the wider statistics available on prevalence of child sexual abuse (CSA) in Hong Kong.
With warm regards,
Taura Edgar
