HKFLA Child Sexual Abuse in Hong Kong: Stats and Prevention Recap 1400 1050 TALK Hong Kong
HKFLA 2025

Taura Edgar, founder of TALK Hong Kong, addressed the urgent issue of child sexual abuse for the Hong Kong Family Law Association solicitors, barristers and judges recently. Drawing on her extensive research, she highlighted alarming statistics, such as the estimated 12% prevalence of child sexual abuse among children in Hong Kong, with a staggering 96% of cases going unreported.  She looked at what we do and don’t know from the official data and how the current laws stand.

Taura emphasized the critical need for education and training to empower adults to prevent abuse before it occurs, advocating for a collaborative approach to tackle this public health crisis. Her insights aim to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by survivors and the importance of effective support systems within the family law framework.
