FOCUS WEBINAR SERIES / Protecting Our Future: Addressing Child Sexual Abuse in Hong Kong – Examining Comprehensive Approaches from Initial Response to Prevention
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of reported cases of child sexual abuse in Hong Kong. The Social Welfare Department reported that between 2016-2021 there was an average of 470 cases per annum, with a 55% rise in cases between 2020-2021. In 2023, the Hong Kong Police Force recorded more than 900 cases of online child sexual abuse. The detrimental short- and long-term harm caused by sexual violence to both victims and society are under-reported, and under-recognised. There is a lack of reliable and consistent data and knowledge surrounding the local situation in Hong Kong.
To address this important and topical issue, we invited experts who work with child victims of sexual violence to share their insights in our upcoming webinar which is co-hosted with the Asia Oceanic Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (AOSPAG).
